FireHorse Rescue Partners with Unbridled Sanctuary to Strengthen Barn Fire Safety, Horse Evacuation, and Security for More Than 60 Rescued Equines
Greenville, NY (July 2, 2026) — FireHorse Rescue, the firefighter-and-equestrian-founded company innovating fire safety solutions for equestrians, is now protecting the more than 60 horses, donkeys, and mules rescued by Unbridled Sanctuary. To keep the equines and their stewards sleeping soundly, FireHorse Rescue has stocked barn fire safety and equine evacuation tools to this dedicated facility in upstate New York. Their easy to install and horse designed FireHorse Rescue Kits and FireHorse Equine Blindfolds provide day-to-day security for the sanctuary’s more than 60 equine residents — horses, donkeys, and mules — rescued from slaughter, neglect, and abandonment.
Unbridled Sanctuary’s mission centers on providing lifelong care, stability, and protection for equines who have already endured uncertainty and trauma. The partnership reflects a shared commitment: ensuring that rescued animals not only survive, but live with the safety, calm, and security they deserve. This dovetails beautifully with with mission of FireHorse Rescue, which aims to put real-world tools into the hands of equestrians to prevent barn fire and emergency related tragedies.
“Preparedness is peace of mind — for the horses, for the caretakers, and for everyone who loves them,” said Ryan Richard, Battalion Chief and co-founder of FireHorse Rescue Kits. “Unbridled Sanctuary has built a place where rescued equines can finally exhale, knowing they are safe from the cruelties they have already endured. We’re honored to help strengthen their safety systems so their residents are protected by clear plans, the right equipment, and a facility that’s ready to act quickly if the unthinkable happens.”
As part of the partnership, Unbridled Sanctuary has staged a FireHorse Rescue Kit and multiple FireHorse Equine Blindfolds in their main barn, alongside additional fire extinguishers to further support rapid response. The FireHorse Rescue Kit is designed to be mounted in visible, high traffic, accessible locations in the barn and includes key tools for barn fire response and equine evacuation readiness.
For sanctuaries like Unbridled, preparedness isn’t optional; it’s a responsibility. With a large number of residents and a wide range of temperaments, ages, and needs, having equipment staged and a clear plan in place can help reduce confusion and improve response time during emergencies.
Spotlight: Unbridled's Spirit, Born into Safety After a Narrow Escape
Among Unbridled Sanctuary’s residents is Baby Spirit, a young foal born in March 2026 who is quickly becoming and inspirational and meaningful symbol of what rescue can make possible. Spirit’s story began before he ever took his first steps. His mother, Joyful, was neglected, blind in one eye, and destined for slaughter until Unbridled Sanctuary intervened. Shortly after she arrived at the Sanctuary’s facility in Greenville, New York, the team discovered she was pregnant.
Today, Spirit is growing up in a place defined by protection rather than peril, and is surrounded by caretakers who prioritize safety, security, and thoughtful preparedness.
“Rescue is more than saving a life in a single moment — it’s the commitment to keep that life safe for years to come,” said Susan Kayne, Founder and CEO of Unbridled Sanctuary. “When a sanctuary takes in animals who have already survived the worst, every layer of safety matters, and when realized what FireHorse was offering, we knew this was something we needed to protect our horses. For us, it's all about the relationships and synergistic goals: the horse that trusts you, the volunteer who shows up every day, the family that visits and falls in love with a rescue story. FireHorse's goal is to help facilities like Unbridled create a safer environment where that trust is never put at risk.”
Unbridled Sanctuary is recognized for its high standards of care and its commitment to doing rescue the right way: strong operational practices, transparent stewardship, and a focus on long-term wellbeing. Their multiple accreditations reflect the seriousness of their mission and the level of responsibility they carry on behalf of their residents.
