Barn Fire Safety Meets Hollywood Glamour: FireHorse Goes Up in New Barns at LA Equestrian Center
Burbank, CA (June 16, 2025) - The Los Angeles Equestrian Center (LAEC), located on 75 acres in the heart of Burbank, California, has been a cornerstone for west coast horse sport for 44 years, attracting a diverse community of equestrian enthusiasts, trainers, and boarders. With multiple stables and the capacity to house 500 horses, a show barn with 460 stalls, 16 areas including the Equidome and a riding school, the LAEC hosts numerous events and shows across a variety of disciplines. In late 2024, FireHorse Rescue began a partnership with this Hollywood equestrian icon, where their innovative new “rescue kits,” designed specifically for barn fire safety and horse evacuation, would become a staple in the facility’s newly built barns and long standing shed rows. But as the clock ticked into a new year, it was clear 2025 would set records for wildfire destruction in Los Angeles County, and within a few short weeks the Los Angeles Equestrian Center was housing thousand of equine and livestock refugees from the blazes that ravaged their neighboring farms and large portions of the state. Fast forward to today, with the fires quenched yet still fresh in the minds of Californians, FireHorse Rescue is proud to be the Official Rescue Kit of this amazing facility.
With the construction now complete on Barn C, these upgraded equine digs will have the added element of safety thanks to FireHorse. Named the “Official Fire Rescue Kit of the Los Angeles Equestrian Center,” the kits house, secure, and protect a wide selection of items designed to give the best chance of extinguishing or surviving a barn fire. Easy to discharge fire extinguishing cans, a fire blanket, smoke mask, hay thermometer, fire gloves, and FireHorse’s patent pending Equine Blindfolds are just a few of the items included, and each kit comes with hanging hardware to secure them in barn aisles, breezeways, tack rooms, or wherever is most accessible and easily found in the event of a fire.

“We in California were given a harsh lesson in the necessity of barn fire safety,” said Jennie Nevin, Executive Director of the Los Angeles Equestrian Center. “Thankfully, our property was spared but many others were not so lucky and were tasked with evacuating their horses and focusing on survival. When we first partnered with FireHorse Rescue Kits in 2024, we knew these could take our safety and preparedness to a whole new level. With Barn C now complete, we have placed these kits strategically around the property and are offering those that rent stalls or barns from us a discount on the Rescue Kits, as we would love to see these in every barn in our state, if not the country!"
About the LAEC
The Los Angeles Equestrian Center is a tribute to the hard work and vision of many individuals who have contributed to its growth and success since its founding. Al Garcia, Don Burt, and Charles Spira’s shared vision of building a modern equestrian facility in the heart of Los Angeles began to take shape in the early 1980s. As part of the center's development, the Equidome, a 3,500-seat indoor arena, was built in 1982. The Equidome quickly became a hub for various equestrian events, including shows, dressage competitions, rodeos, and even music concerts. The arena's versatility and 45,000 square feet (more than half the area of an LA city block) of floor space made it a highly sought-after venue for a range of activities and events.
In 1990, LAEC Incorporated was established, marking a significant milestone in the center's history. LAEC Incorporated played an essential role in furthering the center's mission and goals in partnership with the City of Los Angeles and the Department of Recreation and Parks. The center's reputation as a premier hub for horse activities continued to soar, attracting a diverse community of horse enthusiasts, trainers, and boarders. With multiple stables with room for 500 horses, a show barn with 460 stalls, 16 areas including the Equidome, and a riding school, the Los Angeles Equestrian Center’s 75 acres have become synonymous with excellence in equestrian facilities over the last 44 years.
Today, the Los Angeles Equestrian Center stands as a shining example of excellence in equestrian facilities offering a range of amenities with access to over 50 miles of Griffith Park horse trails. As the host to various horse shows, private events, and film location shoots, the center is still a cherished destination for horse owners, trainers, event organizers alike.

About FireHorse Rescue Kits
FireHorse Innovation - Patented Products & Equestrian Fire Safety
FireHorse Rescue Kits, LLC was founded by career firefighters and lifelong equestrians seeking to bridge the gap between daily barn life and fire safety. Every kit contains a selection of items to be used in a fire or other emergency, and the 100% made-in-the-USA case contains custom foam to protect and prevent damage. Designed to be hung in the main barn breeze way, FireHorse Rescue Kits are an easy way to ensure that every equestrian in the barn is prepared for a potentially dangerous situation.
One of the kit's integral components are patent pending equine blindfolds, developed specifically for use in emergency situations. These horse blindfolds wear like a fly mask and restrict the horse’s vision up to 80%. During fire panic, horses have been known to refuse to leave their stalls or to return to a burning structure seeking safety. FireHorse's blindfolds are intended to allow equestrians or first responders to remove animals safely and intended to reduce injury and panic by removing visual stimulation. They are additionally useful for trailering, for horses sensitive to needles, and to reduce panic when waking up from anesthesia. Each kit also includes two handheld, point & spray canned extinguishers. These are easy to use for any one, from children to senior citizens, and perfect for small fires, especially hay, shavings, or feed room flames. An excellent alternative to more cumbersome, full sized extinguishers, these also require less maintenance and are readily available in the case. During fires, the heat can melt or make latches, door knobs, locks, and other metal items impossible to handle or touch. Heat resistant to 1472 degrees and flame retardant, the gloves in every FireHorse Rescue Kit are made of a mix of breathable cotton knitting and double layered fiber with silicone for grip and fire resistance.
These are just a few of the innovative items found in each Rescue Kit. For a full list, visit www.FireHorseRescue.com/whatsinside
FireHorse Rescue Kits can also be found protecting horses, humans, animals, and property at the Kentucky Horse Park, Wellington International, TerraNova Equestrian Center, the Los Angeles Equestrian Center, and private barns across the United States.
